I've been reading this book for five years. I believe I am making progress now. Semiotics is one of those fields of study that is both totally obvious and maddeningly incomprehensible, especially to a dilettante like yours truly I am an advocate of taking my sweet time. Jul 26, Jaaazd rated it it was amazing. This text was very useful to me in understanding and undertaking semiotic analysis. Bignell explains the topic with confidence. The difficulty is graduated so that each section builds upon the last so that your understanding is cumulatively built, and references are made repeatedly to previously learned ideas so that they are mentally linked and refreshed.

There is attention to the history of semiotics, the differences between the differences between the key theorists and great attention to applications.
