On 3 November the Spanish High Court rejected the request for extradition submitted by Austria in respect of the neo-Nazi Gerd Honsik, who has been a fugitive from Austrian justice since May when he was sentenced to eighteen months' imprisonment for 'reviving National-Socialist ideology' and for spreading the so-called 'Auschwitz lie', which denies the existence of gas chambers during the Third Reich. Since he settled in Barcelona under the protection of the extreme right-wing organization Cedade, Gerd Honsik has published the magazine Halt, Nazi propaganda and racist tracts which he regularly dispatches in large quantities to Germany and Austria. What does the Council think of a situation in which persons found guilty of racist crimes in one country of the European Union are able to seek refuge in another? Gerd Honsik 10 October — 7 April was an Austrian writer and lyric poet, and a prominent neo-Nazi and Holocaust denier. Honsik was born in Vienna , Austria. He also appeared under the pseudonym "Gerhon Endsik", [6] an anagram of the syllables of his name extended by two letters, intended to allude to the politically charged German term Endsieg "final victory". Honsik was fined and sentenced to jail in several Austrian court cases due to his activities as a Holocaust denier. On 4 October [10] Honsik was extradited to Austria to serve out an month prison sentence stemming from a conviction for Holocaust denial. Honsik was only extradited after two European-wide arrest warrants were issued at Austria's request.
