That's odd. SCRs are usually 3N or 4N. Maybe I chose the wrong device to play with.. I think you're not actually giving it the current it needs to turn on. You're using it in a strange mode of operation, and your gate current is marginal, so I'm not sure exactly what the problem is but I'd suggest increasing V1 and decreasing R4, see if that gets it to turn on.
